The lesson itself
What an online lesson actually looks like
A shared whiteboard, not a talking head. The maths is written out live, by hand, the same way it would be on paper in front of you, because watching a solution being built is the part that teaches. You write on it too.
Every session is recorded and the recording is yours afterwards, which matters more than it sounds: a student who missed the step where a substitution came from can go back and find it, rather than carrying the gap into the next topic.
Work is set between sessions and comes back marked against the real IB mark scheme, in writing, with the marks you would actually have been awarded. Verbal reassurance is not evidence of progress, and an annotated script is.
Scheduling
Working across a time-zone gap
We teach on Central European Time. In practice that means a comfortable overlap with the UK, Europe, the Middle East and most of Africa, early mornings for Asia, and late afternoons or evenings CET for the Americas.
The honest part: a slot that works on paper and a slot a tired fifteen year old can actually think in are different things. A lesson at 10pm local time is rarely worth booking, and we will say so rather than take it. Weekend mornings usually solve the hardest gaps.

AA and AI
Both courses, both levels
Analysis & Approaches is the algebra, calculus and proof track. At Higher Level it goes into complex numbers, proof by induction, Maclaurin series and differential equations, and it is one of the most demanding subjects in the whole Diploma.
Applications & Interpretation is the modelling and statistics track. It is a different discipline, not a lighter one, and AI HL carries serious statistical content that many AA students would find genuinely hard.
If you are still choosing, or suspect you are in the wrong one, read AA versus AI first. Picking the wrong course costs two years, and a university door can close quietly at the point of application.
Internal Assessment
The IA, which is a fifth of the grade
Twenty per cent of the final mark, and the part students most often leave until it is too late to rescue. The exploration is marked on communication, mathematical presentation, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics, and most lost marks come from the first four rather than the maths itself.
We work on choosing a topic that can actually be carried through, structuring the exploration against the criteria, and getting the mathematical writing to a standard a moderator will reward. We do not write it. That is both against the rules and obvious to anyone marking it.
Exams
Papers, and the examiner's language
Past papers under timed conditions, then reviewed properly. Most marks are not lost to ignorance, they are lost to method marks never claimed, to a calculator used where working was required, and to command terms read as though they meant something else.
AA HL and AI HL students also sit Paper 3: sixty minutes of extended investigative problem solving that rewards a completely different habit from Papers 1 and 2, and which is worth practising deliberately rather than hoping for.
Who this suits
Who this is for, and who it is not
It suits a student who is at an IB school, has a specific problem, and will do the work between sessions: gaps from IB1 that are now blocking IB2, a grade that has stalled, an IA with no direction, or a November retake.
It does not suit someone looking for homework to be completed for them, or for a single session the night before a test. Those requests get an honest no, because they do not work and both sides know it afterwards.
Teaching is in English. Students who are examined in another language are taught the terminology in both, which is the same arrangement that works for our Spanish-curriculum students in Barcelona.
