GCSE Physics Tutor, Online

A quarter of English state schools have no specialist physics teacher at all. If that is your child’s school, the gap is structural and it is not going to close by itself.

We teach Maths and Physics only. Founder-led, with one specialist teacher throughout rather than a rotating roster.

The thing nobody tells parents

The shortage is real, and it is measurable

Research published by the Institute of Physics in September 2025 found that a quarter of English state schools have no specialist physics teacher at all, and that more than half of GCSE-level physics lessons are taught by someone who did not study a physics-related subject beyond the age of eighteen.

The consequence is the part worth knowing: students at schools without a specialist physics teacher are half as likely to go on to study A-level physics. The IoP puts the number missing out at more than twelve thousand students a year, and found over three hundred schools in England that send nobody at all to A-level physics.

This is not a criticism of teachers. The people covering those lessons are usually chemists, biologists and mathematicians picking up physics on top of a full timetable, and doing it well under the circumstances. The problem is that schools cannot recruit physics specialists: the IoP found recruitment hit under a third of the government target, and that nearly half of newly trained physics teachers leave within five years.

A parent cannot fix national recruitment. A parent can put a specialist in front of their child for an hour a week.

What we actually do

Combined Science and separate Physics

Most students meet physics inside Combined Science rather than as a separate Physics GCSE. The ideas are the same; the depth and the mark weighting are not. We work to whichever route the school entered your child for, because revising the wrong one wastes the term.

We teach to AQA, Edexcel and OCR. The physics does not change between boards, but question style, required practicals and the rules on equation sheets do. We work from your board’s own past papers rather than generic worksheets.

The three places GCSE physics marks are usually lost: equations recalled but not rearranged under pressure, units and standard form, and the extended six-mark questions where students know the physics and cannot structure an answer that earns the marks. All three are trainable, and none of them are fixed by re-reading notes.

How it runs

Online, UK evenings, work marked between sessions

Lessons are one to one and online. Barcelona runs one hour ahead of the UK, so after-school and evening slots work normally without anyone keeping odd hours.

We start by finding out what your child can actually do, which is rarely what the last report said. Then the gaps underneath get closed before anything else, because a student who is shaky on rearranging equations will not be rescued by more content.

Work is set and marked between sessions. The marking is the part that matters: a student needs to see where a real examiner would have stopped giving credit, not be told the answer was nearly right.

Also available

GCSE Maths, if that is the real problem

A good number of students who look like they are struggling with physics are actually struggling with the maths inside it. Rearranging, powers of ten, graphs and gradients. If that turns out to be the case we will say so rather than selling more physics hours.

We teach Maths and Physics only, so either way the person in front of your child is a specialist in the thing they are stuck on.
